Yannis is an IP professional with 30 years of work experience at the European Patent Office (EPO). As an EPO examiner (1989-2002) he examined patent applications in the software and neural networks field.  As Director Patent Granting Process (2002-2019) he has trained, managed and supervised patent examiners in the ICT area and has co-drafted the EPO guidelines for software and artificial intelligence technologies patenting as the vice-chair of the guidelines drafting group.

Yannis has an interdisciplinary profile (computer science, patent law). He has followed legal studies with the University of London and a special training as technically qualified judge for the upcoming European Unified Patent Court with CEIPI (Centre for International Intellectual Property Studies) in Strasbourg.

Yannis is a Senior Member of IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) and a member of AIPPI (International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property), AIPLA (American Intellectual Property Law Association), LESI (Licensing Executives Society International) and the Intellectual Property Commission of ICC (International Chamber of Commerce).
